Elyse Renae

ERM

Elyse Renae is a Holland, Michigan artist who refuses to pick a lane. Hair, skin, nails, tattooing, leather, clay, paint, fabric, wood, concrete, cardboard, plaster, walls . If it sits still long enough, she’ll probably make something out of it.

One week it’s murals and textiles, the next it’s UV resin, furniture building, miniatures, or chainsaw carving in the driveway. Sometimes it’s sewing. Sometimes it’s signage, sculpture, pinewood derby cars, or tearing apart part of her house because she “has an idea.” Her work is driven more by curiosity than medium, and whatever strange material currently has her attention usually takes over the entire workshop.

Turning every hobby into a full-scale creative experiment, Elyse moves between cosmetology, woodworking, home remodels, illustration, sculpture, and hands-on problem solving with very little interest in staying inside one category. While she very clearly inherited ADHD from her father, she fortunately also inherited the variety that refuses to leave a project unfinished. Once an idea starts, life more or less pauses until it’s done.

When money was tight, creating never stopped. Cardboard, hot glue, tape, scrap wood, and recycled materials became the medium. Some of her favorite projects are still the ones that make people stare at them asking,
“wait… HOW?!”
